Bathing Cats
Anyone have any tricks they can share on how to give a cat a successful bath? Are there products out there that make it easier or is there some special way to hold or talk to them to keep them calm?

I don't know- My cat licks herself - I have never tried to bath her. I don't really know anyone who does. I would say take the cat to a pet groomer and get her bathed- and then ask if there are any tricks to it.

I've never given my cats a bath as they clean themselves. One however has had a very quick dip in a bath being too curious when she was young. She soon got out!

RE: Bathing Cats
Although i agree maybe not a good idea i recently acquired 2 new kittens that were in an awful state and smelt so bad i thought it best to bath...they were really good. just a quick dip and a wash with really diluted baby shampoo did the job. Thought you may like to see the photos of the "little drowned rats". Hopefully wont ever have to do it again. But dont people who show their cats regually bathe?..

I give my cat a bath at least 5 times a year, all I do is grab them by the back of their necks, and make sure they are resting against the bottom of the sink while giving them a bath, it allows you to do it in a hurried manor and also it makes them basically not able to fight you while being giving a bath.

Some cats are very fond of water and baths but i bet the majority would not be nice about being bathed!

RE: Bathing Cats
I recently just ran into a product - a pet bather that has a flat solid bottom and a cat length skinny cage. Apparently you are suppose to put the cat in it and it prevents them from clawing you and running away while you bathe them. I may have to pick this up as my cats both seem to be fighters.

RE: Bathing Cats
If your cat does not tolerate the shower, use a ladder to pour water on his, when the treatment does not splash. If the cat is cool with it, you can use a hair dryer set on low to speed up the drying process. This is helpful hippies, but not brush until completely dry. Although not necessary, rinse the cream can be applied diluted after the first rinse after rinsing off.

Leadership is the key ingredient to make a change.
