Clingy pup--PLEASE HELP
Hi
We have a 6 month old Bichon Frise, we bought him when he was exactly 8 weeks old, we all absolutey adore him, we thought it would be a good idea to let him sleep in his own bed in our utility room, wrong!, for the first week we put up with the whinging and whining. I was absolutely distraught, he has slept in our bedroom ever since. I can't leave a room without him wanting to be with me, I can't go out of the house because he screams and cries or deposits little 'surprises', he is ok if he is left at home with someone, son or husband but will not tolerate being left on his own, please, please can someone help me?

Hi Sarah
I am afraid Darlington is a bit far, we are in Cheshire, would you suggest we look for a dog trainer? a friend has suggested a dog behaviourist

Hi
How cruel it may sound but have you thought of a dog cage. Many dogs find these a safe place to be, put in their bed a few favourite toys, and treat them every time they go in, they will soon see this cage as a good place to be , leave the door open on occasions and you will find they will happly go in and out without asking.
good luck what ever you try.

RE: Clingy pup--PLEASE HELP
hiya,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but not been on the forum for a couple of weeks as we've been tending to our very sick cat.
I would definately say that taking him to dog training would help. Personally I believe that training should be an integral part of a puppys life as is socialisation. I'd check locally for details of local dog training sessions.
Also, as khilton mentioned... a cage / pen may sound cruel but it isn't really... it offers the pet somewhere secure and safe to call their own and once the pet is used to it... it is often their own little 'safe haven' that they return to sleep in.
Good luck and let us know how you get on with training.
Best Wishes
