Litterbox
My friend has a cat, and his cat always hangs around the litterbox to poop. Well, I noticed that when I walked by it, it smells HORRIBLE. It smelled like rotten poop and pee that was like 5 weeks old. :S

Anyone know how to fix this problem, because I didn't approach to him about it yet.

Let it snow, let it snow!

I don't really know. If you don't take care of a litterbox, it will definately end up that way. For that reason, I encourage my cat to "do his business" while outside.

RE: Litterbox
Maybe you could try to ask your friend to put the litter box somewhere not a whole lot of people may encounter it. Or maybe try to change it's contents once in a while. Eek It's better if you cat will get the hang of doing his business outside the house.Wink

We clean out our litter box a whole lot more often than I'm sure a lot of people do, but it just takes a few minutes and there's never been a problem with a smell. Ours is a total inside cat and going outside for "potty" isn't an option. She uses it, we take a minute to scoop and no problems.

I think you should get one of those scents that filter the air around the litterbox so it smells like flowers. Big Grin

I bought one of those for my cat's litterbox. It helps a little bit, but not as much as you may think. However, it is better than nothing.

RE: Litterbox
I would think maybe your friend needs to clean out the litterbox more. I have a lot of friends who have cats and the litterbox does not smell much at all.

My cat does her business outside the house so we don't have those types of problems.

RE: Litterbox
Poop should be removed after no more than 12 hours. That's considered the safe time for preventing the spread of toxoplasmosis, as the parasite takes about 24 hours to hatch in the poop. You could tell him that as a way to encourage him to do it more often.

Otherwise I would suggest an enclosed litter box. We got one of those when my daughter started crawling to keep her out. But I wouldn't like to be the cat in that case if the dude never cleans it.
