Hi All,

I'm in the process of researching a piece of work for a longish article or maybe even a book based on what happens to lost cats - some are re-adopted (I have 3 here who seem to think I'm a soft touch ripe for that here!), some sadly get involved in RTAs, or get stuck and turn up months later, but some do make it back ....

I'm trying to get to the bottom of what actually happens, I've heard rumours of them being kidnapped, stolen, used for all sorts of things, but evidence is hard to come by.

If you have a story, or an experience to relate, I'd like to hear it, either on here, or if you'd prefer lostcats@doodlebugger.free-online.co.uk.

I will of course credit you as the source, or not if you wish, and will respect anyones wish for anonymity. I'm looking around the forums, if I find anything of interest, I'll mail the person concerned before using anything.

Hi, My Cat Tigger was Stolen from a couple a Year ago now, Tigger Had not been neutered when he first went missing (6 Weeks) and as look would have it my Daughter was at her Friends when they spotted Tigger on the Grass, I was over the Moon and I booked him to the vets the next day to have him Neutered. This did not stop Tig from still going back down this street so I would drive down there to bring him back home but unfortunately on a very bitter cold and heavily raining Tuesday night I did not go down for him and that was the last time I ever saw tigger again, I say saw him but I did here him crying every time I went down calling him. Some young Girls who knew that Tigger was mine was delivering the news papers and saw me down there calling him, funny enough I had actually heard Tigger Crying from one of the houses and the girls told me that this Lady and man had got Tigger and were meant to of rang me up to let me know, they never did they told me a few things that they did to tigger to stop him crying when I called him and how they only let him 3 times a day and got him straight back in case I went down when he was let out. Caught this long story short my daughter come back down with and we knocked all the doors we could here him crying from this house for hours I went back home wrote a letter leaving out who it was that had said they had him and posted it ten minuets later Tigger couldn't be heard and this Lady and her husband come around the back where I was and said they did have a cat of the same description keep going through there cat flap etc she then said wait until I see them paper girls saying things like that, I never mentioned who had told me so how would she of known?? I knew I would get a phone call from them the following day and sure enough I did, before anyone spoke I heard my cat crying in the back ground then the lady said to me I think Tigger as turned up again will I go down to pick him up, when I got there the cat I had heard wasn't Tigger or it didn't even have the same Cry they must of thought I would not go back around there as it wasn't him but I knew that that cat belong to a Friend of there's who lived opposite to them. I carried on going down there and kept hearing my Tigger crying from there house, I went to the police but they wanted concrete proof I had the police come down to me as someone made a call saying there was a person hanging around down there all day, they are Evil and didn't give a dam that I was standing in the Bitter wind, Rain and then the sleet and snow calling him all hours under the sun I stood just calling him right outside there window they stood behind the window lights off watching me the next day when I went the Crying from there had stopped then my phone calls of sighting of Tigger started to roll in, Friends of there's no doubt. One lady had rang me with concerns as she had been offered a cat of Tiggers Description by a lady who said she had 2 cats and needed to rehome one of them. I know in my own heart that they had Tigger and the not knowing who or where he is or even if he is still alive don't get any easier and I hate Tuesday because if only I had gone down for him that night Tigger would still be here with me now. Reason why they took Tigger? He was the only Cat that had never ever ATTACKED their OWN CAT. THIS WAS OUT OF THERE OWN MOUTH TO THE TWO YOUNG PAPER GIRLS. There isn't a day go by that I don't think about my Baby or stop looking for him when I am driving anywhere, I mean anywhere including Travelling to watch my son playing all his away games for the Football Academy. A friend of mine had two ginger striped cats, one once went missing, when she went looking for it she saw it in someones house, she knocked on the door and asked for it back they swore it wasn't hers but it was. this happened quite frequently. Eventually the other one went missing when she went to the house they had moved & taken the cat with them!

When I was eleven, my family was in the process of relocating from Oregon to California. My sister and I were staying in our temporary home, a duplex, with our grandmother, while our folks did the actual work of moving. They had my kitty in the car with them.When they got out at one rest stop, my kitty (who was not in a carrier, sadly) bolted out of the car and was lost.

My mother of course had to break this news to me when they arrived in California, and I was heartbroken.

But something intriguing happened. A few days later, from my bedroom I heard the living room door open and shut. In our living room, all by itself, was a kitten! To this day we do not know who put the kitten there. But we had a beautiful new kitty and my life was happy again!
