Ever more Britons are naming their pets after celebrities and soap stars, the animal welfare charity PDSA said on Thursday, with Elvis, Beyonce and "Posh 'n Becks" among the favourites.

But for the second year running, the top pet name for all breeds is Max, the veterinary charity found in a survey. Second was Charlie and third Molly.

"There has certainly been an increase in pets with famous names," said PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon Elaine Pendlebury. Calling in Robbie Williams or Elvis can cause quite a stir in the waiting rooms.

After ploughing through some 300,000 pets' names, the PDSA also gave a popularity breakdown by breed:
