Should we get another cat?

Some advice please. We had to have our 3 year old cat put to sleep two weeks ago as she had FIP. We have a one year old male Siamese who was very attached to her and has now become a bit of a thug with other cats (although i think he is looking for somebody to play with) and wanders around howling at us until we sit down and give him cuddles.

Should we get him a companion or let him work through this in his own time?

RE: Should we get another cat?

Sorry for your loss.

It is difficult to say whether or not it is too soon to get another cat. But it does seem obvious that your cat is looking for a companion and some comfort as he is missing his friend.

if you do get another cat make sure it is a female this will pose no threat to your existing cat and should avoid any territorial fighting. Perhaps a young cat or kitten would be best, as this will be less of a treat aswell.

personally i would wait a few more weeks and then get another cat. remeber to introduce them gradually, perhaps following the procedure of keeping them separate for a week of so but to transfer each others scent around the house on cloths etc to get them use to each other before they actually meet.

Good Luck, i'm sure it will all work out.Big Grin
