Hi we lost our kitten just under 2 weeks ago, and today we found her and we are exstatic. The only problem is that our other cat Mini , who is Timmi's younger step- sister isn't so pleased to see her. She is hissing at her whenever she gets near.
Timmi doesn't seem bothered, and just seems pleased to see us.
Has anyone else had this problem with a returning cat?
When we introduced incomer, Bess, (aged 10), to Sophie (18 months) and Edward (12 months, sort of), she hated Edward and battered his head/ears/tail/anyother-part-of-him-handy. We did our best to make sure that Bess, Sophie and Edward all got the same attention. Also we made it clear that Bess would have to learn to live with both of the others, (Edward inparticular), and no matter how much she played up, the situation was non-negotionable. After several months the situation developed a natural status quo. Try not making more fuss over the returnee than the stay-at-home kitty
and try to let them have their own space until they get used to having each other's company again. Sometimes the situation is never solved and the balance of puss-power has to be physically restrained by the human in the home, by either removing one cat from the situation and placing it elsewhere in the home until things calm down after the most recent skirmish or let them get on with things (under your watchful eye) take their natural course to sort out the balance of power within the household. Ultimately, if nothing works, then rehoming Timmi might, very sadly, be your only option. Hope it all works out for you and the pusses.
Best wishes,
Carole
