Sad downside to microchipping
Hi i'm Jackie age mid 50s new to this forum. We have three dogs Benji x collie/springer age 5 Megan cocker Spaniel age 4 and a 14 year old x labrador Petra. The topic I wish to talk about is we have had both Megan and Benji microchipped 4 years ago and I want to alert people to the fact that you may not be aware that it is not fool proof. A relative of ours who is training our dog to be entered into dog agility competitions took our dog to be measured by the Kennel Club this weekend, but they could not detect his microchip so he could not be registered. The Kennel Club said they had come across this before, which is news to us. We contacted our vets who asked us to bring him in,after going over him they confirmed that the microchip was either lost, come out,or just not working. They have since put another one in him today. My concern now is that where dogs that do go missing, the owners who have done the right thing by having there dogs microchipped and thinking that if found they would soon be reunited with there dog would be none the wiser as we would not have been ourselves. I feel the vets have a duty to warn people about this.

RE: downside to microchipping
When I visit various shows they offer chip testing for a small fee ( 50p or a £1 ) I always get mine checked, as my dog can whip a collar off in a tick ! When ever I visit the vets I always ask for it to be checked as well, always very obliging.
