help needed re this dog

**** the god was handed into the local police station last night as there was no where else to take him and I couldnt and my father couldn't cope with him.. he was a very old dog and looked very ill.. it was such a shame but the best thing to do for everyone.. i just hope that the dog was chipped and they are able to find their owners and either return him if he was lost or stolen or prosecute them for abandonment! *****

hi, came accross this site and thought would post for bit of advice.. my dad was in a pub last thursday night, a woman got chatting to him and bought him a drink and he bought her one.. she then asked him to hold the dog while she went to the toilet.. needless to say she never returned and left my dad there with the dog.. he waited for a while and as she never returned he left his name and address behind the bar.. he now doesnt know what to do with it! as he works a lot during the day and evening then I have looked after it for him but I cannot cope as I have three small children under the age of 4 plus the 2 younger ones are quite scared as they are not used to dogs and it isnt fair on the kids and also the poor wee dog.. it looks quite old, it was a bit smelly so we have bathed it and kept well fed.. it is a bit thin and had been eating well.. i dont think it has been that well looked after as it had a sore looking eye and also there is a prob with its back legs.. it looks so sad and it is a shame.. just really to ask what would you do with it? I have said to take to the cat and dog home but i am unsure if there would be a better place to take it given the circumstances not sure what to do! I have never heard of this happening to anyone before!

RE: help needed re this dog

Well this is a strange one!! Can you not advertise the dog for a home or maybe try to find the owners? Get in touch with local papers etc for publicity. He may have been kidnapped and the lady darn't take him back so dumped him. Its a hard one because you don't know the dogs background. you don't mention what type of dog it is. If the dog is old the chances are no-one will want it if you send to a rehoming centre. You maybe better off ringing a rehoming shelter and asking for some advice on what to do, i know i did this with a stray cat i found back in Aug and he's still here living in a shelter in the gdn as no one has claimed him and rehoming centres just don't have the space for him, i'd rather he lived in garden than PTS. They may be able to advise you alot better as they helped me alot. Pls let us know what happens.

RE: help needed re this dog

thanks for your reply nugga, yes he was a very old dog and he looked like he was very ill and had maybe arthiritis in back legs etc.. he was a very timid dog so god only knows what kind of background he came from... i couldnt cope with him any longer and sadly my dad tried a few people he know to see if they would take him on but unfortunalty.. so by the time last night he had finished he had no alternitive to take to the local police station where they will contact the rspca.
