missing charlie
Our cat Charlie has been missing now for 3 weeks and we are absolutely devestated. I keep driving around our area at different times of the day and night hoping I will see him somewhere. Id like to know if anyone else has done the same and if they had any luck...I can only imagine the millions of places he could be...am I wasting my time??

Hi

Please also consider doing the following:

(i) Put posters up where you live and further afield.
(ii) Put an advert in your local paper;
(iii) Notify vets and animal charities in your locality.
(iv) Deliver posters to neighbours and other people in your town/village.
(v) Empty the contents of your hoover in your garden.
(iv) Keep an eye on websites such as mymoggy.com, animal search, cat chat.... for cats that have been found.
(vii) If your cat is microchipped, inform the microchip company and make sure that they have your correct address.

I hope your Charlie comes home soon. Don't give up hope.

Best regards

We have just got our cat back after 22 days missing.
The best response i got was from the local daily newspaper, and flyers, posted thru doors.
My cat was found about 6 or so miles away, think he must of hitched a lift, so in this case all the local pounding the streets, was not helping (altho unknown to us) I don't think he wandered that far himself, across many major roads.
He came back just skinny, and obviously underweight, and dirty, but on the whole, nothing else/no problems so far, altho a bit more nervous than usual, and tentative now.
He was found mostly because of his loud meowing by a skip, by a family (cat owners) who obviously thought he was in distress. He was minus his collar, which he has never lost, altho stretchy, and removable by an adult, i'd say it was very difficult for him to take it off, altho possible caught in a branch or something.
There are very kind people out there who feed strays (i've just started feeding a feral stray outside at the moment, that usually comes in mine and the neighbours catflaps)He unfortunately 'spray's in ours, and others, so once my cat is fully recovered i'm going to catch him, and see if he's obviously still intact, and see if i can get him neutered.(and of course get him scanned, i talked to my vet) I'm new to the area, and I've been told he's been hanging around for a while and scaring a lot of owners cats, for a year or two, and havingmajor fights with them. So could you cat have been 'bullied ' away?
I don't think it was the case with ours, i think he must of got into one of the builders trucks, mine is also quite road savvy too (as much as a cat can be) so that is another thought, would yours cross roads, and how far is his 'territory' is he known to wander?
I hope you find him soon. Is he very approachable?
ps
the best time to 'spot' the sightings of other cats similar to ours, was at dawn we found (or dusk)
So a few 5.00am trips out, enabled us to catch sight of cats very similar to him, that we had reported to us (from our newspaper ads)
We just had this feeling he was out there, having many lives, and surviving a lot of difficult situations already in his short lifetime of 2 years.
In the end tho, it was a very well meaning stranger and her family, that found him for us, so i hope you have some luck.
Also i heard a story yesterday, from my brother-in-law of a friend of his who'd been feeding a stray for a year, and thru local 'chit-chat' from friends to friends to friends, it was finally re-united with it's original owner.

I don't think we'll ever see our cat again. I suspect my former neighbours, with whom we had a long dispute and whom we took to court, have killed him (I know this sounds over the top). My cat disappeared on 13 July 09 and they moved out on 18 July 09. He was seen on that morning, making his way home but he never made it for his breakfast. After moving out of Limpsfield, the neighbours then went to manage a cattery and kennel business on a farm in Redhill, Surrey which is not far from Limpsfield. In the meantime, they tried to let out their property without much success. After 6 weeks of managing the cattery/kennel, the owner of the farm asked them to leave because they were not running the business properly. The day they started moving some of their stuffs out, the owner's cat went missing but she found the body a couple of days later. The cat had a bruise on his left ear and eye but the vet couldn't give a conclusive cause of death. Unfortunately, I never got to find my cat's body and I suspect they disposed of him in their dustbin because it was a Monday when he went missing and our collection is on Tuesday. I must say I didn't expect them to do such a thing given that they own a dog but a lot of people in the village suspect that they've killed my cat. But who knows. I had advertised twice in the local newspaper, distributed leaflets, put posters up...I don't have any hope.

But the good thing is that they no longer live next door to us. They were in arrears with their mortgage (the court case made it worse) and their house has now been repossessed. Couldn't have happened to nicer people.

But I'm always pleased to hear of others who have succeeded in finding their cats.

How sick, how could these people be pet owners?? and run a cattery/kennels??
There are some people tho sadly it seems , who have no empathy to any animals out there. I'm a great believer in what comes around goes around, so if not in this life, in the next, they'll pay their dues.
I brought my cat from Asia, it was an abandoned kitten, pets are not thought of too highly there, it's heartbreaking, why my daughter did not like living there, seeing all abandoned and stray animals. I only brought one cat with us, but some of my friends there, brought two, or three out with them. Mine also did not arrive in a good state, and it was staying with a vet for 7 weeks to complete it's quarantine! I'm surprised it got thru Heathrow, and let in, but i suppose they see a lot worse.

I can only hope my little boy didn't suffer in his final moment. The worst part is that they used to play with him. Sadly, we live in a cruel world. People like my neighbours exist everywhere. But there are also kind people out there. Hope your Charlie is settling in ok.

Our cat is Cosmo, sorry i didn't make that too clear, when i was replying to Charlie's owners, on what we did to help look for him.
He is getting used to us again, not whining too much about not going out yet. We let him out for about an hour yesterday under supervision.
He's still not 100%. Helost a lot of body weight, and was probably on his last legs when found. He's quite a fussy eater, and will only eat dried food, that must of been his problem. I have to take him back to the vets in two weeks time for another check-up to see that he has gained most of his weight back.

Hi

I hope your Cosmo gets better soon. I understand how worrying it is when they are not their usual self.

My two cats are actually enjoying the warm weather. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing them happy.

Take care.
