I hope in sharing a couple of my own positive lost dog experiences I will give comfort to others who are currently searching for their lost pets.
My last Dobermann was startled by a hot air balloon when he was 8 months old. He took off, with the balloon following him overhead so he just kept going. I couldn’t find him and no-one reported finding him. I put notices up all around the area where we had been walking and in the nearby town.
3 days later I had a phone call from a man who had found him in traffic in the town centre and taken him home. Reunited!
That was a few years ago. Then last year I was staying in Kent at my Sister’s house – a very long way from my Wiltshire home. My current Dobermann and my little Border Terrier, both microchipped and wearing i.d. discs with my home PLUS mobile number, spent most of their days in the large garden, the Border sometimes disappearing into the neighbouring field but always returning to the house. Then one day he didn’t return. Hours went by and searches were futile. I was confident I'd receive a phone call any moment but none came. Posters were put up along lanes and main roads in a 10 miles radius and in all the villages. Of course I rang the Police but they don’t deal with lost dogs anymore; they gave me the Dog Warden’s number to call. I registered him as lost with the dog Warden. My son rushed down from London and searched for 2 days and well into the night, travelling miles along country lanes and checking at Gypsy sites. We were frantic.
I rang local radio stations and newspapers. One wonderful girl at the Kent Messenger did a small editorial piece on "missing Milo", with a photo, and got it into the paper just as it was going to press. I am forever indebted to her as it was this that prompted a dog search agency to contact me.
After 3 days and into the fourth I received a call from Alfie’s Dogs search organisation. The lady had seen Milo in the paper and asked if I’d checked with the local “holding” kennels. I hadn’t, of course, and she gave me the number. I rang them instantly. My Border was there! Reunited!
Why couldn’t I find him earlier? His i.d. disc was missing, probably pulled off when he went through a fence or hedge. His microchip wouldn’t scan [later had to have another inserted]. My Sister’s house is situated between two Dog Warden offices and I reported my missing dog to the wrong one; no communication between the two apparently. He was picked up by a well-meaning person just outside my Sister’s house but without his i.d. disc they assumed him to be lost.
I don’t know if all Dog Wardens have special holding arrangements with boarding kennels but it’s worth checking in your area. Worth checking also which is the relevant Dog Warden for your postcode location.
The big lesson for me is that you can’t rely on any of the precautions you put in place or the local Council department to automatically direct your missing pet back to you.

Top ten tips for bonfire night

With fire work season fast approaching, here are some ideas to help reduce anxiety in pets when the flashes and bangs get to much.....

•	Start preparations early, don’t wait for him to become distressed

•	Close curtains, put the lights on and play music to disguise noises and flashes.

•	Don’t overly sympathise with him, he is more likely to perceive this as approval of his nervous behaviour.

•	Provide a “den” or safe place in which he can retreat.

•	Engage him in energetic exercises throughout the day so that he is physically tired and more likely to relax in the evening.

•	Stuffed toys or chews may provide a usefull distraction.

•	Using homeopathic remedies and other anxiety products will help him stay calm and relaxed.

•	Be calm yourself. If you are stressed he is more likely to be stressed.

•	Try to keep to his usual routine as familiarity tends to improve Confidence.

•	Work on a behaviour modification programme for next year.

Also we if we find a dog we would like we woud want to pick it up after we come back from our holiday. so pick it up in august. Does anyone know of any dogs needing homes. we are willing to pay any amount and we know leonbergers are costly with vet bills and need a lot of grooming. So that is not a problem. We will travel as far as we need to pick it up. So if anyone knows anything please e-mail me or post a comment.

HAVE YOU SEEN HONEY???

I am looking for a little pomeranian x female dog who I rehomed to a women called 'Kirstie' in October last year.

She told me that she would take care of Honey and I believed her - I also told her that if for any reason she could not look after Honey I wanted her back, she agreed to this.

I did not ask for any money for Honey as I love her and just wanted her to be safe and happy.

I recently rang Kirstie to find out how honey was and she told me that she had rehomed her due to the kids pestering her!! I asked her why she had not contacted me to let me know before doing this as I had asked her to. She said she had lost my details. I then asked her for the new owners details to make sure she was ok, apparently she had lost these also. I was very suspicious as she did not seem to be telling the truth but she told me that if the new owners were to contact her she would let me know. I heard nothing.........

I posted an add on freeads to find the people that had Honey had gone to and got a call from a lady that had last had her and had also passed her on to another person who she again did not have the details for....

But I did find out that my suspisions of Kirstie were true - that she had taken my dog to purely make a profit by selling her on. I have since tried to contact Kirstie but she just puts the phone down on me.

I am posting this advert for 2 reasons, FIRSTLY to find lovely Honey just to make sure she is ok as I feel so guilty for letting this happen to such a good dog, I hope that she is having a wonderful life as she deserves it but I need to know that she is safe. I do not want to take her from her new family. Honey is a pomeranian x, 2 - 3 years old and as I am aware not spayed, she is microchipped and white and apricot in colour.

And SECONDLY to warn you about 'Kirstie' if that is her real name. She lives in Crawley in Sussex and has dark hair and quite fat. She has a yorkie. Please be aware that if you are rehoming your dog that there are people like her around that dont care about your feelings or your pet. They just want to make abit of extra cash. Please, please do not give your pets away free.

At the moment, it is still at the very early stages, sending emails and talking to others who would be interested.
i was braught a puppy for my 21st birthday as i recently lost a very much loved english bull terrier and the void was just to big to bear.

ive had my puppy a month now and she is so wonderfull, so loving, and all the children love her as much as she loves them.

but then comes the problem

i knew her father is boxer cross boerboel, n know him very well as he lives down the road from me .. and was TOLD her mother was a full staff, but ive found out that she was half tankline american pitbull. Now im scared i will have to have her put down as pitbulls are illegal allthough she is only qualter.

please could someone help me ad advise me on what i can do as i love my dog very much and would be devistated if i have 2 loose her.

her character is wonderfull. she is brilliant with my cat, and with my other dog who is unfortunatly blind, and at 14 weeks old she already tries to lead my older blind dog around. she was braught to fill the void i had from my other dog dying, and to give my dog i already own some company. now im terrified i will have to put my puppy to sleep as the law says that pitbulls are "dangerous" when in true facts any dog can be trained to be dangerous, its all in how u raise your dog and how althorative you are with them, my pup is already very disciplined and it would break my heart to have 2 loose her.

please will some body help me and advise me on what i should do.

it would be much appreciated

Hi, I was wanting some advice on what breed of dog would be best for our family.
Im looking to get a dog in the spring/summer for myself, as i have twin 4 year old boys that start school full time next year so i would love the companionship of a dog again, i work from home so will feel at a loss when my boys are gone all day.

We love big to medium sized dogs, we used to have a St Bernard well before the twins came along, but don't want one again due to the size and slaver, but saying that i would trust one 100% with my boys. And wonder if there was another breed that i would feel the same as.

I have been doing a lot of looking into different breeds but im just confused now. I don’t want a puppy and will probably go to a breed rescue or find one that needs rehoming through advertisements.

It must be really good with children of cause, i have three Persian cats, so needs to be ok with them, one of my little boys is disabled and unsteady on his feet so not a boistress or bouncy breed. I can give loads of exercise as we have fields and woods at the bottom of our road and a large enclosed garden so that’s not a problem.

Any help and advice welcome, thanks

Hi

I'm heather and I used to be a foster carer for the blue cross. Unfortunately I found out that the people in charge of the fostering scheme don't seem to care about the dogs.

I'd be grateful if you would read the full story at http://www.charityvoice.co.uk/animal-cha...-disaster/ and then leave a comment. We are using this as a sort of petition to get the dog back here with us as we desperately want her and there is no rule saying that foster carers can't adopt dogs.

thanks for your time everyone!
